An archeologist digs up a nasty vampiress who then proceeds to wreak havoc in Paris. The only ones who can stop her are Lucian, a good vampire from Drake's previous book (Deep Midnight); the enigmatic Brent, who may have supernatural abilities; and Tara Mason, a narrow-minded American whose grandfather happens to be a member of the Alliance, an age-old group dedicated to containing evil. An assortment of other characters join the mix including Tara's flippant French cousin, her mysterious beaux, a determined police inspector, a creepy investigator and a clueless young couple but they only detract from the central romance between Brent and Tara

A fun read about the history of vampires and werewolves set in the outskirts of Paris. My only complaint is that in an effort to add to the "spooky" or mysterious tone of the book there's lots of confusion about who people are. Names change as time passes and the good guys/bad guys are intentionally confused. This reader was irritated rather than spooked.

A page turner full of suspense and not a lot of passion or romance. Not quite as good as the others in this series. I do still recommend reading it.

Great book!
In 1944 in an ancient churchyard just outside Paris, archeologists uncover an ancient tomb and something goes frighteningly wrong. Fast forward to present day, Tara Mason is visiting Europe and is chilled by the sinister goings on. She is fleeing from a legendary, sensual predator who stalks the night and wants to claim her body and soul. She must trust her protection to a shadowy man who calls himself a guardian, who has sworn to protect the innocent from an evil most never see.

In a churchyard outside Paris, archaeologists reveal an ancient tomb. As the tomb is opened, something goes very wrong. Something too frightening to imagine, and too terrible to tell.
For American Tara Mason, the romantic city of her dreams has suddenly turned sinister. She has heard the blood-curdling screams in the churchyard and knows that she must run. A powerful stranger is after her, and her nightmares seem to be turning into reality.
In the dead of the night, at the country estate where she has sought refuge, a shadowy man appears. He calls himself a guardian, sworn to protect the innocent from an evil most never see. He has come to save her. If she doesnt believe him, she may lose her life....and soul.

This book is about modern vampires and the supernatural people who try to keep them in check and keep the rest of us, unsuspecting mortals safe.
Great book, especially if you like the mythology of vampires and werewolves.

WOW! Great read.
WOW! Great read.
Not your typical vampire fare. The archeological dig and the French setting gave it a different flair but the heroin was wishy-washy and lacked depth - as did the supporting cast. Plot not put together well from start to finish.
The bad news - if you've read one, you've read them all. Pretty much.
The good news - if you like Shannon Drake and her stories, you'll love it!
After having read so many of her stories, I'm pretty well sated.

EVERY NIGHTMARE HAS IT'S BEGINNING IN AN ANCIENT CHURCHYARD JUST OUTSIDE PARIS,ARCHEOLOGISTS UNCOVER AN ANCIENT TOMB-CERTAIN THEY HAVE STUMBLED ONTO THE FIND OF THE CENTURY. BUT SOMETHING GOES VERY WRONG AS THE TOMB IS OPENED. SOMETHING TOO FRIGHTENING TO IMAGINE...AND TOO TERRIBLE TO UTTER. THIS IS ANOTHER GREAT STORY BY SHANNON DRAKE.

I had high hopes for this book, and the idea for the story was interesting enough...but I had a really hard time getting into it. It wasn't a bad read, just difficult to stay with for about the first quarter of the book.
