The story of Cain and Martha. Cain returned to Sheol basically to wreak havoc and kill the man/angel he thought responsible for his mates death.
I almost put this book down many times. The back and forth with Cain and Martha seemed to go on forever. His cohort helping him to bring Sheol down, Metatron, is probably the dumbest bad guy I have ever read about. And although Metatron was not a fallen angel, and could have returned to Heaven and Uriel at anytime, he did not and it was never established why, even though that's all he wanted.
Martha was so wishy-washy, and then trusting, and then not trusting, and after someone tried to murder her, she made herself available so he could try again. Huh?
After about two-thirds through the book, it picked up and improved. In the end I was glad I stuck with it.
