A great love story - romance surrounding the Battle of Waterloo - with interesting, multidimentional characters, good plot, mystery, intrigue, action, romance. I couldn't put it down. Brava, Ms. Michaels, one of your best! I cant wait for the next installment of the Becketts of Romney Marsh.
I absolutely loved this book! It's such a sweet love story. Very good read!
Via a roundabout route (in the order 4-6-7-1-2-3-5), I've finally read the last remaining book of the Beckets of Romney Marsh series. Though the romance was a little tepid compared to the others, the larger story of the Beckets which was told over the 7 books was advanced and a few things that puzzled me in the later books were explained. Napoleon has escaped and gathered an army for another attack on Britain, and Rian has gone off to fight in the war, managing to get a position as a message runner for the Duke of Wellington. His adoring adopted sister and shadow Fanny, who has been in love with him her whole life, follows him, dressed as a boy, but she fools no one. Valentine Clement, the Earl of Brede and Wellington's war-weary, cynical spy, is forced to take her under his wing as the battle nears, and of course sparks fly when they are thrown together. The entire series has been thoroughly entertaining despite flaws here and there, with interesting characters that grow on you and the larger mystery of the enmity between the Beckets and Edmund Beale playing out slowly over the seven books.
