This is a great mix of action and romance. Mary of Mar was married at 14, widowed by a husband who cared more for his country than for her, and vows not to depend on a man again. Kenneth Sutherland has been fighting to prove himself for his whole life, first against an older brother, lately to the would-be King of Scotland. Mary wants nothing to do with the champion, except he is rather handsome, and when she gets an eyeful as he pleasures a woman, she decides she's allowed one night of passion. Kenneth isn't used to being dismissed by a woman, so his next fight is to prove his worth to Mary.
