I hated the show--the 1/2 of the first episode, anyway. I don't know what it was that drive me to read the book. And it was far, far back on my list of books to read--so far that it might never have been touched. But when I received it (through PaperbackSwap.com of course), I read the first paragraph. And then the second. And third, fourth, fifth, etc. until it occurred to me that I was actually reading the book and I wasn't going to put it down. And let me tell you, the book was so engaging and funny and damn well written that I'm willing to give the tv show another chance. It was that good.
I was almost turned off by the initial similarities to Hitchhiker's guide. I mean I thought Douglas Adams did it wonderfully--I didn't want to read a cheap knockoff. But then the similarities faded and I knew they were only present because I had let my mind tell me they were. No, this is just good writing, a good book, and a fun read. I'm really glad I picked it up.
