I liked this book because it is a realistic picture of what a war between the US and the USSR might have been like. It is an exciting and fast paced read

Clancy's second book. He is a master of the military suspense novels. A chillingly authentic vision of modern war..... It is a story you will never forget. Hard-hitting. Suspenseful. And frighteningly real.
One of my husband's all time favorites. He read it years ago and asked my to find him a copy so he could read it again.
A good book. A bit hard to follow at times in the audio format since there are no breaks when the story jumps from the american side to the russian side or any other side. Good action, enjoyable characters and overall a good story. I would recomend this book.
I liked it better than The Hunt for Red October.
A suspenseful modern war story with good action.
Tom Clancy makes submarines most excellent
One of Clancy's earlier ones and one of his best
A chillingly authentic vision of modern war, Red Storm Rising is as powerful as it is ambitious. Using the latest advancements in military technology the world's superpowers battle on land, sea and air for ultimate global control. It is a story that you will never forget. Hard-hitting. Suspenseful. And frighteningly real.
This was one of my favorite Clancy books. I liked it better than Red October -- and that was a blockbuster!
This was my favorite of the early Clancy novels.
The Best "What if" book ever written., June 13, 2002
Reviewer: K. Wyatt "ssintrepid" (St. Louis, MO United States)
I had originally picked this book up right at the beginning of Desert Shield. Being in the Army and working on a post where we were processing soldiers/units to go to the desert and working very long hours. It took a couple days to get through the first 150 pages or so. On the day that I reached the chapter where you're sitting in cockpit with the pilot of a stealth fighter and he's going in on an attack run, I couldn't put it down from there. This was and is the best World War III scenario ever written. If you've not purchased and read this book, do so immediately! Thank you to Tom Clancy and Larry Bond for one hell of a book!

Not my favorite kind of book but was a hit with my husband.
Typical Clancy....book cover is rough...it has been read a lot....inside is fine...
Clancy, great at usual.
One of the first I read of Clancy's. A great read.
Interesting scenario with awsome combat detail on both sides of the conflict. Keeps you reading.
One of the best and most comprehensive war books to come out of the cold war, a direct and honest assessment of both sides in a war between the east and the west and the choices and mistakes made by each.

When a major Soviet oil refinery at Nizhnevartovsk is destroyed by Islamic fundamentalist fanatics, the Soviet oil supply becomes critical. Winter is coming and shortages will get worse. The Politburo, the rulers of the Soviet Union, decide they have no choice but to seize the oil fields and refineries in the Persian Gulf to make up the shortfall and assure their own survival. But NATO will not sit idly by and allow them to conquer the Gulf without opposition. Many NATO nations depend on Gulf oil as well. So the Politburo decides that NATO must be neutralized before the Red Army can conquer the Gulf. They institute a deception plan to keep NATO off guard while they prepare for the invasion of Germany. The invasion plan is code name Red Storm. When the invasion begins, World War III is on. The key to NATO's successful defense of Germany is the supply line across the Atlantic. As the NATO allies desperately try to keep the Atlantic supply line open, Soviet forces just as desperately try to close it. The battle of the Atlantic, fought between two Navies with the most modern equipment, is just as deadly as the battle of Germany fought between two armies with the most modern equipment. From the halls of the Kremlin in Moscow to the East Coast of the United States there is a Red Storm Rising.
Best Book Clancey Wrote.
I bought this book with the intentions of reading all or most of Tom Clancy's books--how unrealistic was that?????
The success of this book needs not be mentioned--all of Clancy's books are best-sellers.
I hope someone takes this one, as it's a pity to let such a good book go unread.
