This was the first book I read by this author and it was awesome. I liked this book best of all the ones i have read by her. Having lived in lancaster county and not being amish i thought she did a wonderful job in making you see things from both points of view. if you have never read a book by beverly lewis this is one of her best and you will want to read more from her.

This was the first book of the this type and by this author that I've read and I enjoyed it. I thought Sarah and Brian's relationship was a bit far-fetched and hokey, but I loved the descriptions of Amish life and culture.

This is such a good book! I love Christian fiction, and this is a great one. The story is so moving, but you just never can figure out how it will end. A great read!

I definately enjoyed the book better than the movie. Just a side note the book October Song by Beverly Lewis has a bit of a continuation on the characters in this book.

An interesting book from the noted author Beverly Lewis. I believe this is a stand alone book, unlike the many series by Beverly Lewis that include three books or more.

This is a good book about the Amish community. Lydia Cottrell, eldest of five amish orphans, made a promise to her dying mother to keep the family together. She soon learns that the guardianship is granted to her Aunt Sarah who is not amish and not even a christian.

I liked this book but not as well as "The Heritage of Lancaster County" series. As a Christian, I appreciate the references to salvation. However, I felt like there is a little bit of overkill in her books. I found myself starting to skip through her mini sermons. Wanda Brunstetter, another author of Amish fiction, is a little more subtle in her approach.

A heartwarming story. A very good read. It's a story of a modern woman entering into the Plain lifestyle of the Amish. Takes place in Lancaster County Pa.

Another outstanding book by Beverly Lewis! This book is about Amish Lydia Cottrell whose parents die and she's the eldest of 5 children. Her "non-Amish" aunt has to come and care for them. Very interesting seeing how the aunt deals with the Amish ways. Highly recommend this book!!!

Sarah never understood why her sister converted to Amish ways, and is overwhelmed when her 5 neices and nephews become her wards after her sister's death. How can she sacrifice her career and man in her life to hold this Amish family together?

This is another one of Beverly Lewis' great books about the Amish community. The main character is a thoroughly modern woman. The book revolves around her relationship with her Plain sister and what happens in Sarah's life when her sister dies. It's a great read.

Lydia Cottrell, the oldest of five Amish orphans, promised her dying mother to keep the family together, but she may not be able to as her mother's sister was given custody of her five children when she died. The sister is not Amish and has never understood why her sister chose the Plain lifestyle or what she is expected to do about her sister's children. A wonderful tale that is heartwarming and endearing.

If you loved the other series by this author, then this is must read. If you are not interested in reading any of the series then try this. It will give you a good feel of the author's style and of life as an Amish women.

This is a book that made me think twice about all of the "things" in life. A story about an Amish family and what happens when their aunt from the big city comes to help out in crisis. Good read.

This is a sweet loving story. I love stories involving children and these are sweet loving Amish children whose mother, on her dying bed, wishes for her younger sister, who is not Amish, to come and take care of her children.
She does not want the five children to be separated. Sarah cannot understand why her older sister would want her as she had nothing nice to say about her while growing up. You will love this book as much as I did.

The difference between this book {the movie edition} and the regular paperback is that this book has a letter from Beverly Lewis and pages of color pictures from the movie, which is nice to read and see. This is a beautiful story and one you have to read if you are a Ms. Lewis fan. Excellent read.

~~~Even though you may find the sermons her books as a tad overkill I have to disagree. It was because of Beverly Lewis's "sermons" that I found the love of God again in my life. I find it sad that you see it as overkill. While it may be annoying to some, to others it's a breath of freash air. :)
Lydia Cottrell, eldest of five Amish orphans, made a promise to her dying mother to "keep the family together". But soon she discovers that guardianship has been granted to a virtual stranger--a well-to-do aunt from Portland, Oregon, who care little for Mamma's last wish. Lydia's struggle to keep the promise may cost her the loss of "the sweetest, kindest, and most handsome Plain boy in all of Lancaster County"-Levi King.
A thoroughly modern woman, Sarah Cain had ridiculed her sister's choice of a Plain life-style, which served only to intensify the lifelong rift between them. Now, twelve years later, Sarah is stunned by the news of her sister's death and baffled by Ivy's choice of a guardian. How can Sarah sacrafice her successful career and a life she enjoys to raise five Amish orphans? And what of Bryan Ford, the man in her life?
Upon her arrival in Lancaster County, Sarah holds a grief all her own--one very different from the suffering of her nieces and nephews. Can the sorrow that divides them ultimately unite the new family? Will Sarah discover that Lancaster County's Amish community is not only a simpler place, but also a healing place?
