This is Faulkners happy, adventurous, award-winning tale with much male bonding and many ensuing high jinks. The novel reads almost like Huck Finn, but not as episodic. Youll enjoy the tomfoolery and playfulness a real stray from Faulkners usual, serious style of writing.

I liked the story. It is really a neat and adventurous story. I had a hard time with the choppy style of writing. I guess Faulkner is a genius but I felt like I just wasn't familiar enough with the time period to really get everything taking place in the story.

An eleven-year-old boy is caught up in an unlikely adventure when two of his grandfather's employees more-or-less accidentally steal the first automobile in Jefferson, Mississippi. Their quest to retrieve and return it lead them through racetracks and bawdy houses as Lucius Priest grows up far too fast for his own comfort.
