Dark book, well written, will he get away with it?
And I'm not talking about the serial murderer this book centers around...
How far would YOU go in seeking retribution?
The answer this book offers left me feeling unsettled...

Anything by Jilliane Hoffman is good. I think this is her best book. She not a well known author but this book, or any of her other two books will keep you on the edge of your seat. She's one author that I really keep an eye on for new releases.

This is her first novel and it was REALLY good. I have now read her second book: Final Witness. It's also excellent. Am anxiously waiting for her next book.

Enjoyed this book a lot. The first few pages really grab your attention and then it is slow for about 80 pages, but the author makes up for it in the end. Last hundred pages I did not want to put it down. Overall a good read.

Might give author another chance, but it seemed as if she was trying to hard to make it graphic and chilling.

Excellent story and a great first novel for the author. It is perhaps more gory than my taste but it was unexpected and asks some powerful questions. How far should ethics bind a person? Perhaps further than we like to admit but then again, we all have a need to see justice prevail.

This was a great book. The character was strong, the story line thrilling, and lots of mystery and twists in it. Loved this book. Read it in two days. Found I did not want to put it down.
This was an incredible page turner!
C. J. Townsend is a brilliant state prosecutor known for keeping her cool even when trying the most horrific cases. The current murderer is as base as they come - a vicious killer who savors cruelty and considers murder an art form. Amid a maelstrom of media coverage, C. J. builds her case until she is struck with a shattering blow from her past. Now, everything rides on her ability to hold herself together long enough to put the criminal behind bars forever.
I enjoyed this story even though it was a little farfetched toward the end. I give it an A!

Although I normally don't read thrillers or court room dramas, when I started reading this book at a friends house I could not put it down. This was a page turner indeed that will have you gripped from the very first page.
Great book....full of surprises!!!
first experience with author--ok
The Barnes & Noble Review
This debut novel by a former assistant state attorney is a crime drama/courtroom thriller offering authentic forensic details, legal quandaries, and a surprising, enthralling plot.
After Chloe Larson is raped and left for dead by a madman in a clown mask, she changes her name, starts a new life in Miami, and becomes a prosecutor for the state attorney. A dozen years later she's given the task of prosecuting William Bantling, who is suspected of being "Cupid," a serial killer who butchers women. Chloe recognizes him as her rapist and begins to slide towards a possible mental breakdown. As she tampers with the case to make sure Bantling pays for his crimes,, she's beset by the question: Even if Bantling is her assailant, does that prove he's also Cupid?
Hoffman provides expert twists throughout a novel that starts off grippingly and never lets up. With smooth prose, and an inviting narrative style, the author creates believable and sympathetic characters, and although Retribution is intensely graphic and unsettling at times, Hoffman brings expertise and street credibility to her work. This is a darkly compelling, often gut-wrenching novel about a victim's attempt to balance the craving for personal revenge with the desire for justice. Tom Piccirilli

retribution- punishment that is considered to be morally right and fully deserved.

A assistant state attorney trying a vicious killer. Now she has to keep everything together long enough to get him put away.
This is an excellent mystery story. It is missing the dust jacket.
This is a difficult book to put down once begun. It has interesting plot twiests that I didn't anticipate, and characters that didn't totally defy believability. I found the moral conundrum of C.J., which leads to the title of the book, compelling and thought-provoking. This is an excellent debut, and I eagerly await more novels by the talented Ms. Hoffman.
Chloe Larsaon was, an usual, in a mad bliding rush. She had all of ten minutes to change into something suitable to wear to the Phantom of the Opera currently sold out a year in advance and the hottest show on broadway put on a face and catch the 6:52 p.m. train our of bayside into the city which was in itself a three minute car ride from her apartmen to the station.....
This is the Book of the Month Club edition. The text is the same as the original; the size of the book is just a little smaller.
Cover does not look exactly like this one.
