Dollycas's Thoughts
The Chili Showdown rolls into Texas and pays tribute to the Chili Queens of San Antonio by serving chili at a fundraiser for a week at the Alamo in addition to their festivities at the fair grounds. You will only find the Chili Chick at the fairgrounds. For the charity event they dress a little more old fashioned. They are also serving a different type of chili each night and they are joined by several other groups serving their versions of the dish including a company that sells chili IN A CAN!! The girls just can't believe it.
Of course where the Showdown goes trouble usually follows and soon Maxie finds a body. A strolling "hot" guitar player had strummed his last string. When the man is identified we learn the he and the Showdown's head of security, Nick, have crossed paths. He may even be the police's prime suspect. No beans about it Maxie is hot on the trail and she is burning up trying to find the real killer,
I love this series! Maxie is smart, savvy and her temperament is spicy. You never know where her little investigations are going to take her. Sylvia holds down the fort while Maxie is either dancing up a storm as the Chili Chick or dancing around the countryside following a lead. But she doesn't do it out of the goodness of her heart, she is sure to have a snarky comment of two whenever Maxie returns. They are only half-sisters and running their dad's business, Jack Pierce's Hot-Cha Chili Seasoning Palace, together since he has disappeared without a trace, means they have to put up with each other.
Kylie Logan has served up yet another marvelous cozy mystery. She has given us plenty of unique characters, several who are viable suspects, and put them in a fantastic place. She spices up the story with a dash of romance and a dollop of humor. This one moved right along and has a couple of surprising moments they will make the pages fly faster and faster. It is a hot, hot, hot one and I highly recommend you dish up a copy as soon as you can.
