I know it's probably trite of me to ask this, but how does Ms. Beck come up with the ideas for her books? I've enjoyed so many of her novels, a number of which are parodies of common mystery plots.
This one is a entertaining parody of present day California, Hollywood, and fantasy fiction from the earlier era of Conan, Fu Manchu, etc.; as well as almost everything H. Rider Haggard and Edgar Rice Burroughs wrote.

Pretty disappointing. The reason I read murder mysteries is for the solving of the murders and until the last few pages, while cleverly written, the book was kind of dull. Not what I usually read from K. K.
