Five stories that reveal human nature and human weaknesses. From the tale of a marriage built on lies that only death can reveal - to the story of a group of Anglophiles saved from a killer thanks to Inspector Lynley - to the final story about a penniless teacher whose ambition turns murderous. Very suspenseful.
Four shorts from E.George that are enjoyable with nice twists in the mystery genre that she has mastered for the delight of her readers. She throws in some kernels in the Introduction of each story about where the idea for it originated and how in many of her books these shorts became an inspiration and foundation for one of her main novels,i.e.,Thomas Lynley and Lady Helen which are the main characters among others in her Thomas Lynley series. A nice insight into this writers thought processes.
Good short stories from E. George. Her novels tend to be long-so this is a nice change, if you don't have a lot of time to devote to one of her wonderful books.
Apparently, Ms. George's publishers wanted her to do some sort of potboiler, so they suggested a group of short (20-30 pp) mysteries, each independent, inside one cover. They are ok, but what gets left out is what sets Elizabeth George apart from all the rest, character development. Similar to some of the Nero Wolfe books that have three or four mysteries in one cover.
I just finished this book of short stories by Elizabeth George. I seldom read short stories but I do love the writing of Elizabeth George. Each story was different and carried its own surprises, mysteries, characters and solutions. If you or someone else did not care for this book, please don't judge the author by it. Her full length novels are really good so give them a try.
