I'm so glad to see the FBI profilers Pierce Quincy and his partner, Rainie Conner back again and wondered why Ms Gardner abandoned them. I would like to see more of them instead of her constant popular D.D.Warren series.

Quincy and Rainie were foster parents to 13 year old Sharlah, came to love her and are now in the process of adopting her. She was 5 years old when her 9 year old brother Telly killed their raging, drunken father who had knifed their mother. As he tried to kill the children, Telly killed him with a baseball bat to protect his sister. The police took him away and Sharlah never saw him again.

The story plays out as Sharlah's brother looks to reunite with his sister, but now is a suspect in the murder of his foster parents and is on the run.

This book had my heart beating uncontrollably as I rushed to see what happens. After many twists and a happy ending, this book gets 5 stars from me. Loved it.

I'm not a regular Lisa Gardner reader but bought this based on the jacket description. Should have waited to find it here on PBS. I agree with another reviewer with the repetition. I found the ending totally unrealistic; it was as if she had run out of time and had to quickly finish up the book.

It is great to see Quincy and Rainie back after a long hiatus. This story was fast-paced and emotionally gripping. It did peter out a bit at the end though.

Very overrated in my opinion

I used to like Lisa Gardner but not so much anymore, I keep trying her books and hope to find a good one but over the years she's fallen off my list

I got very tired of all the repeat, it repeats the 'crime' of Telly over and over page after page, it repeats the term 'foster' over and over page after page--very tiresome

I found lots of it just unbelievable so did a lot of skipping and skimming, and there was just too much unnecessary descriptions that also can be skipped over and not miss a thing

So for me this is a dud but I can understand why others would like it.
