IT'S NOT YOU, IT'S ME... — For Gabby Pearson, being dumped in public before the dessert course has to be the lowest of the low--especially when it's the old, "It's not you, it's me" speech. Honestly, how about something original: "I have five minutes to live" (very possible); "It's not you, it's the voices in my head" (thanks for the warning); or...  more »

Contemporary romantic suspense by HelenKay Dimon. Forensic Accountant Gabby gets dumped in public by her boyfriend, Reed. Gabby makes a scene Reed will never forget. Reed is an undercover agent who got involved with Gabby during a case, and broke off wit her, for her own protection. But, now he'll have to try to get back into Gabby's good graces. The first part of the book is fun, with lots of one-liners, and verbal quips between all the characters. But this gets tiresome as the story progresses. The last part of the book gets better. The romance is sweet, but then the author forgets to tie up all the lose ends of the subplots. The book is fair. I've read both better and worse.

A fun read but nothing really special.

I don't really know what to say other than it's not nearly as good as the book description implies....I had such high hopes for this one too!

The beginning was promising, but it soon goes downhill...60% is from the heroine's point of view, while the rest is mostly from the Hero's...I think the main problem was a lack of details as well as characterization...not enough info was given on either character, so it was hard not only relating to them, but liking them either...Overall this feels like a rough draft more than a fully complete novel, with too much unexplained.

A fun, spoofy read, especially for those that like snarky dialog. I thought the premise of undercover secret agents [from two different secret agencies] investigating each other was cute although it does not inspire the readers to have faith in government competence.

Both leads are engaging, as are the heroine's co-workers [they both deserve their own books, especially Doug]. Of course they achieve the requisite HEA after a couple of speed bumps, occasional homicidal thoughts, and some unexpected lane changes.
