This book surprised me. In a way, the writing was very much like a river - slow, then speeding up, speeding up more, and finally crashing into the finale in a wave of talented prose. Wastvedt gives you *just* enough information to stay interested, but not enough to carry the book around with you. Eventually, you won't be able to tear yourself away, so stick with the confusing time changes and many characters in those times.
There is one part, toward the end of the novel, that I feel is the truest passage ever written on earth.
Recommended for lovers of slow and sad tales.

This book is well-written, pretty sad, with lots of characters who are steeped in their grief.
great if you are like me and love the tragic stories...
