Dalva, followed by The Road Home, are the best of Jim Harrison's impressive body of work. I have read both novels several times since their publication and I still find something new and heartwrenching about Dalva and her family, living and dead. If you grew up on the great plains, near the Black Hills or on a ranch in America, you will love these novels. If you didn't, you will get a glimse of the history that helped shape the heart of our nation. There is nature, romance, silliness, tragety, and wonderful characters within these pages.
