This review is specific to the Brilliance Audio abridged (5 CD) audiobook.
R.A. Salvatore's novel "The Road of the Patriarch" is a brilliantly conceived, intricately intertwined set of storylines. Each and every aspect of this novel has an intimate impact on nearly every aspect of every storyline throughout the book. The notion that this novel could, somehow, be successfully "abridged" is inconceivable. Listening to this audiobook abridgement, after becoming very familiar with the whole story, is like looking at a spider's web with more than half of the connecting fibers removed. One can reasonably recognize the web, but it is immediately obvious that most of the effectiveness is simply gone, and what remains is ineffective.
If you are truly interested in the full web that is the intertwined lives of Artemis Entreri, the dark elf Jarlaxle, the half-elf Calihye, King Gareth Dragonsbane, the dwarf Athrogate, and the dragon sisters, then get the full unabridged version.

I had gotten this for listening to in the car while on a trip because we knew dealing with radio stations would be a pain. It's a little disappointing because it's abridged, but the reader does a pretty good job. Luckily, I'd already read the book but just wanted this for driving so I didn't have to miss out on anything in the story.
