Great read. Outside of the opening scene, no detailed descriptions of the crimes, just crime solving with some flirting mixed in. Lots of possible culprits ... didn't see the end coming in this one.
Loved this second book about Kathryn Dance. Can't wait to start the 3rd book! I enjoy the writing style, the way we are getting to know Kathryn and this book was left with a precarious personal issue with Kathryn.
Just could not get into this one. Tried several times- just felt preachy about internet bullies and blogs etc.. not my favorite.

This was just OK. I doubt I read another Deaver novel that features Kathryn Dance as I don't like the character. Really wasn't very suspenseful and way too many red herrings and subplots. The main message: people spend too much time on the internet, they accept rumor, speculation and innuendo as fact -- and reveal far too many personal details.

A killer is walking the streets of the Monterey peninsula. He leaves roadside crosses, not after his kill but as a warning before he strikes. As Kathryn Dance and her team begin to investigate the prime suspect is identified as a disturbed teenager who has been under attack by a major blog and its followers. The boy can not be found and as Kathryn and her team dig deeper into the game playing boy and his avatar another picture begins to emerge. First the victims were people who attacked the boy and soon they are anyone who posted. The blog owner refuses to pull the blog and before long politicians get involved putting pressure on the investigators. As Dance tries to solve the case her mother is arrested and charged with a mercy killing that occurred in the previous book THE SLEEPING DOLL. There are some shocking twists and turns before the killer is caught. This is a first rate story about blogs and the world of gamers that is very disturbing. Highly recommended.

This author always likes to add twists to his stories. I think he may have overdone it a little here but this book is still a good read.
This is the second Katherine Dance novel I have heard and have enjoyed them both.
