Quite frankly, I wasn't too hopeful about this book. It is the second book in a two book series and was written four years after the first. The first was "Dead or Alive" and I didn't think it was up to Wentworth's usual standard. But this one was outstanding and wrapped up all the loose ends of the first. Except for Frank Garrett, who actually plays a minor role in this book, as he did in the first, all the characters are different. As such, it could be read as a stand-alone. Toward the end, the suspense was such I had to stay up late to finish it.

With a lot of Wentworth's books, you often don't know where the title comes from until the end of the book. With this one, I had to think real hard about it. Finally, I decided the title reflects the fact the protagonist is continually reacting to the actions of others as he attempts to save his own life as well as that of the main female character.
