How romantic! When I read Julian's first love letter I just had to stop, close my eyes and savor the moment. Ahh, to have such a letter written to me...The villian was a nasty piece of work, just enough to keep things suspenseful. The ending scene was very appropriate to the title. A great love story!

England, probably Regency era. Continuing saga of Laclerc family members/friends. Their sister, Penelope, the Countess of Glasbury, after having left her violent, perverted husband ten years earlier, is now being pursued by him, the Earl of Glasbury, because he wants her back for his perverted pleasure and also for a much-needed heir. Penelope's knight in shining armor is Julian Hampton, her solicitor, who was the childhood friend/playmate of Penelope and her siblings. Madeline Hunter has again crafted a wonderful love story. I read everything she writes.

The title belies the darkness at the core of Hunter's Regency romance cum legal thriller, the fifth in a series that started with The Seducer. Penelope, countess of Glasbury, has been separated for years from her abusive husband, who has yet to sire an heir and now demands the return of his wayward wife. Penelope seeks help from Julian Hampton, family friend and solicitor, who has long hidden his own passion for Penelope. Her appeal forces them into an irresistible proximity. As the earl's demands grow more insistentand violentJulian and Penelope must uncover her estranged husband's deepest secrets if she is ever to be free of him.

Love it very much. So well read, and sat in bookshelf so long the cover seperated from the book, but both are in great condition, honestly.
