What a joy to read a wonderful author from the U.K. There is just nothing quite like a U.K. mystery. Have just about accumulated this entire "Pennyfoot" series by hook and by crook (sometimes expensive resellers, not lovely PBS traders). I highly recommend this to any "cozy" mystery lovers.

A Great beginning to a great series.........We meet Cicily, Baxer, the household staff and the outspoken friend and an ethereal psychic..... read them in order to follow the character development and watch relationship grow/change.......I would love to have been able to stay at the "Pennyfoot", except that there are always people being murdered !

A charming, clean cozy set in England. When Cecily's husband passes away and she takes over the hotel, she faces a host of unusual guests and a mysterious murder.

As this says all I would have, I am using and Crediting this review to: Anthony P Perrotta

Cecily Sinclair is the owner of the Pennyfoot Hotel, a charming little place on the seaside of England. Her husband, recently deceased, has left her to care for their much beloved little hotel, recently discovered by the London upper-crust for their weekend jaunts to the seashore in the summer of 1906.
When Lady Eleanor Danbury's battered body is discovered in the shrubbery, she is thought to be a victim of a 4-story fall from the lovely rooftop garden directly above.
Needless to say, all the current guests of the Pennyfoot become suspect, and most have some sort of reason for wanting Lady Danbury dead.

It's up to Cecily and her trusted, yet fussy, hotel manager Baxter to identify the killer (local police are not that bright) and save the reputation of the Pennyfoot Hotel.

This is the first in a series of books and I had a terrific time reading this first installation. The characters are sweet and endearing, and even the wacky, minor characters are quite lovable. A wonderful, cozy read with a nice mystery to keep you guessing until the end. I can't wait to read the second one! Highly recommended!

This is definitely a 'cozy' mystery from a past decade (1993). The setting in the Pennyfoot Hotel was fun. I didn't see much of the town, but met all of the 'hotel' characters'. The solution to the mystery was pretty easy. I won't be pursuing this series. 'Too many books, so little time.'
