Bittersweet, heartbreaking and at times achingly funny. The book begins with Lori Jean's death at the hands of her abusive stepfather then tells the tale that led to her ultimate demise. Highly recommend!! 5 stars

This was a great book. I could hardly put it down. Fictional memoir of a young girl with an abusive step-father. I highly recommend it!

This book arrived less than 24 hours ago, and I devoured it. Such a sweet tale, easy to read, as well as very sad. But mostly redemptive, with forgiveness and love conquering all hate and the ultimate abuse - murder. Very, very good!

Roseflower Creek by J.L. Miles (Jackie Lee) 5 stars

âThe morning I died it rained. Poured down so hard it washed the blood off my face.â

This is Jackie Lee Miles' first novel, and one that kept me up late, set my heart to pounding, and took my breath away in its sadness, and absolute love and forgiveness. I'm a sucker for southern fiction told through the eyes and heart of a child, and this is one of the best.
We know from the first line that 10 year old Lori Jean is dead, then we find out she has been brutally murdered by her step-father. What follows is a child's tale of hope, joy, poverty, heartbreak, and forgiveness.
Every character in this book has a story, and none are what you'd expect. The author is a magician with words, settings, and getting to the brutal heart of each person, every action.
Highly, highly recommended, this, and the following books that Miles has written.

This book was sad but good and I couldn't put it down. I fell in love with poor little Lori Jean.
