Our children enjoyed this fantasy. I categorized it as hard to follow, but they enjoyed the imaginatory dialogue. It's hard to put down, as the reader wonders if Roverandom will ever be "normal" again.
Sounds most like the Hobbit, it sort of begins that way. There are pictures by Tolkien that in his own distinctive style.
