These are short stories and might have been better fleshed out. In particular the Winston story ends suddenly and all three stories have the feel of something that was lifted from a longer work; there are references that MAY be to other works/story lines but short stories should stand alone without the need for a working knowledge of the author's universe.
Sooooo glad this was one of my $3.99 purchases from the Borders "hurts" - because it would have seriously hurt to have paid full price!
