This one was a page-turner and held my attention throughout the book. I usually don't like series, but Wood's words make the reader want to seek out other "Will Lee" novels to see what happens to this interesting character. The settings are fully-described, without burying and boring the reader with details. It seems as if you are on the boat with Will, and watching the action to see what will happen at the same time.

Since a friend recommended reading Stuart Woods I have enjoyed the 2 I have read, including this one. If you are sailing buff you will enjoy this book. If you are not, like me, you will still enjoy it. It has enough action and suspense to keep any reader going. This story involves Will Lee getting involved with the "troubles" in Ireland and with sailing.

A terrific beginning to a wonderful series!

This is yet another intriguing adventure of Stone Barrington and his cronies from the NYPD. As always the plot was complex enough to hold the reader's interest but with humor and mayhem tossed in for good measure. Stuart Woods books are always a good read.

Woods is one of my favorite writers. One of his early books on Will Lee. A must read to give you insight on the later WL. Very good reading as usual.

Will Lee ran from a life of Southern wealth and privilege to spend a peaceful summer on the coast of Ireland. But there is no peace in this beautiful, troubled land...
Restless and dissatisfied, Will dreams of shipbuilding and sailing on crystal-blue waters. Then an explosion of senseless violence drags the young American drifter into a lethal game of terror and revenge. Now Will Lee must run for his life from a bloody past that is not his own.

From the author of the bestselling Under the Lake, comes a story of political intrigue, revenge and danger. Run Before the Wind delivers the gripping, tensely plotted storytelling that has won Stuart Woods a place on national bestseller lists. --W. Norton.

Good read
Stuart Woods used to be one of my favorite authors. I read several of his novels several years ago. I have a lot of catching up to do! This one was a great thriller telling the story of Will Lee after he pretty much gets told to take a break from law school and try to get his act together. Lee's first appearance was in Woods super novel Chiefs which is probably my all time favorite of his. In this one Will travels to Ireland to visit his grandfather and while there, he makes acquaintances with Mark Pemberton-Robinson, his wife Annie, a local girl named Connie Lydon, and others. Mark is building a boat under the sponsorship of a rich backer named Derek Thrasher, to race in 20-day unassisted yacht race. Will makes friends with Mark and agrees to help in the building of the boat in Cork, Ireland. It turns out that Mark is a former British soldier who had conflicts with the IRA in Northern Ireland and is still a target by the IRA. Thrasher is also an IRA target. In any event, the building of the boat does not go as smoothly as it could have with Thrasher going into hiding and Mark getting injured. This book was written in 1983 and takes place in the early 1970s when there was still a lot of conflict between the British and the IRA. Overall, a lot of action and information about yacht building and sailing. I really enjoyed it! Looking forward to more Woods.
It's refreshing sometimes when the star of the book is not a super-hero. Will Lee is just an ordinary guy trying "to find himself" and in the process, ends up running for his life.
One of his very best back before he started "churning" them out like he was getting paid by the word. This is well written and very exciting throughout.
I really did enjoy this book... if nothing else to lay the foundation for future Will Lee books. Some of the sailing stuff was rather dry to me, but if you are part of that world, I think you would enjoy this even more!
Good book!
Run Before the Wind is Stuart Woods' second novel. Will Lee's family is introduced in Woods' first novel, Chiefs. Lee is a young man who is off for adventure in Ireland, but gets more than he set out for. It is a book about sailing and a young man finding out who he is.
Stuart Woods' books are best if read in order. His characters often make appearances in books even if they are not about them.

A southern lawyer heads to Ireland for a summer of sailing only to get caught up in the gunrunning and smuggling of Irish conflict.
Another in the continuing series of the Georgia Lee Family.
