Heiress Evelyn Thurgood-Baron is determined to escape marriage to the man her father has chosen. In disguise as a lady's maid, Evelyn hops the first train going west, hoping to make her way to California and see the ocean. Evelyn poses as Eve Pierce, a lady's maid hired by Mrs. Smythe, a collector of fine art. But it turns out that Mrs. Smythe is actually Luke Devereaux, a man who has been accused of murder and is wanted by the police. Luke certainly doesn't need a lady's maid hanging around while he is trying to clear his name.

This is a cute historical romance with appealing characters. Evelyn was a pampered heiress who is being used by her father as a pawn in a business deal. Luke is a New Orleans policeman the object of a manhunt. They learn to depend on each other as they try to outrun the people who are searching for them. My rating: 4 Stars.

Oh, you should get around to reading it! It is hilarious! I thought I'd split my sides laughing at the big hunk of a policeman disguised as a woman and the petite lady dressed as a ladies maid. Evelyn is running away from home to keep from being forced to marry a man ultra wealthy father has chosen for her and he's running from the law while trying to clear his name. She stands by him, expecting only adventure, and he takes her along because he thinks he has no choice. But they neither bargained on falling in love. If you're looking for a fun book, this is it!

Evelyn Thurgood-Baron does not want to marry the man her oil baron father has selected for her (as part of a business deal) and decides to run away to see California and the Pacific Ocean. On her train ride, she meets Luke Deveraux, dressed as a woman. Luke is a New Orleans policeman, who has been named as the murderer of two other police officers.

Although I found much of their introductory interactions to be less than amusing, it didn't take long to really care about the characters and their plight. However, I found some parts to be tedious and slow-moving, overall I enjoyed the story. 3.5 stars
