Jack Reacher is not the most likeable guy. That is because he has a habit of "butting in" when he sees an injustice occur. This time his butting in was being watched... by the FBI. And they don't like what they saw. So will they put Reacher in jail for a long time? Or is there a deal in the making?
As with all Jack Reacher stories, part of the time you cannot help but root for the hero. And part of the time you want to slap him up the side of the head and ask him what he was thinking. This story fits that in an ever-repeating cycle. For a change we also get to hear what the "bad guy" is thinking. At first it feels awkward, but once you understand what Lee Childs is trying to do you can go along with it.
This time the story is kind of a "who dunnit" along with the normal "loner in trouble" situation. With a little thought the reader should be able to come to a solution ahead of the author. My book on CD was completed in 2 driving sessions and the guilty occurred to me an hour before the reveal.
