Once again, Foster manages to depress us, stymie us from the true advancement of the less than stellar plot for the over-arching Pip & Flinx novels and bore the bells off of me.

This novel, along with the past couple, just is real hard reading. I felt like I was slogging through Pip's angst and sinking fast. Where is the FUN!?!? These books used to be about fun and cool things. Now it's all about death and confusion and a bloody angsty boy/man.

I think Foster has lost what he started with in this series, and I am sad for that :-(

The Pip & Flinx storyline is stalling out with this one. It is an okay book, but does nothing to further the story. You can skip this one and not miss a thing. Personally, I'm getting impatient with the series.

If you do read it, be aware the next book in the chronological time is Bloodhype, a book that was written 30 years prior. Otherwise, this book ends with Flinx headed to Replar and Trouble Magnet starting with him leaving Replar. Go figure.

Another chapter in the adventures of Flinx and his minidrag Pip, this one did not grab me as his earlier books did. The last few books have been little more than Flinx wandering the galaxy and inadvertently getting into trouble, and this one more than most. While he is traveling through the region of space known as the Blight, he decides to stop on a planet for ship repairs. Curiosity and boredom cause him to ignore the Commonwealth laws about exploring a planet with sentient beings that are far behind in scientific and cultural progress, resulting in accidental contact with the aliens. When he tries to use his superior technology to help some of them, his good intentions soon spiral out of control and the local inhabitants begin to view him as a god. While this book was entertaining enough, it did not do much to advance the greater storyline that Flinx has been traveling along, and I found myself impatient to get it over with and move on with the bigger adventure.
