This is a ghost story set in October in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It's perfect reading for fall or any late night. Maggie inherits a house from a relative she didn't know she had, and when she gets to the house she begins experiencing weird events. It's a small town, so everyone else already knows the house is haunted and at least a little of the story of why. Maggie is a strong main character, but she does do some dumb things. The author is excellent at setting the atmosphere so you buy into the spookiness and the idea of the ghost right away. However, some of the writing seems a bit juvenile and it could have used a better proofreader. Once I saw that she had written children's books, that made sense as this was her first (and only that I could see) foray into books for adults. I was pretty sure that I had figured out what was going to happen, but I was surprised by a couple of twists that were unexpected. The book held my attention all the way through and I found myself wanting to get back to it when I had to stop for other things. Was it perfect? No, but it was definitely worth the time I spent on it.
