Sacred Games is really the story of Mumbai (Bombay), told through the eyes of a gangster and a Sikh policeman. Chandra's prose are very nice; this is not pulpy, mass-market stuff but real literature and the story is exciting enough to make it good entertainment as well. On the downside, I thought it could have used a little more editing. It comes in at just under 1,000 pages and it didn't need all of those to get where it's going. Even so, if you were ever curious about what life is like in a big, modern Indian city, this is a great book to read.
