Mystery thriller that involves a young woman with problems -- fired, lost her apartment, estranged from her family, etc. who is offered a job by a very rich man to help his wife manage their home and child. The family lives in a mansion in remote France, with acres of land, gardens, outbuildings, pool, etc. Perfect job in a perfect location, but the employer and his wife have major problems. Fast moving and entertaining story.
It's been awhile since I read a thriller - I'm not opposed, but they aren't in my top three genres. This was the perfect novel to reintroduce me to domestic suspense. If you crave a high body count and fantastical plot twists, you probably won't enjoy this. If you like complicated characters, an increasing sense of dread, a beautiful setting, and a shocking yet believable twist, add this to you summer TBR list.
The story is told from three points of view: Emily, the aspiring-actor assistant; Scott, the successful executive husband; and Nina, wife and mother. The setting is a palatial estate in the French countryside. To share more risks spoilers.
This was the perfect escape on a hot summer Saturday. Thank you to Minotaur Books for this gifted ARC; all opinions are my own.
