Actually, the woman's name is Dr. Katherine Dunne. This IS a one-day read, mostly because a person is brought into the action right away. Well written, and although it's only 308 pages, the print isn't as large as it has been on a couple of recent novels by Patterson. And you don't really know how it ends until . . . the end.

I loved this book. The tone changes from character to character so it really works having the dual authorship. Plenty of adventure, plenty of intrigue. Katherine Dunne plans a long sailing trip to try to get her children closer to her; stoner Mark, bulimic Carie, and 10 year old Ernie who sees the world through the eyes of a 30 year old. Good entertainment.

This is one of the worst books Patterson has ever written. Every chapter is 1-1/2 to 2 pages long, ends in some kind of cliffhanger, and, while the basic plot is pretty good, the story and the people in it are terrible. Patterson overuses exclamation points (i.e., She saw a snake! It was headed right for her! She had nowhere to go!) and the book reads as though it is aimed at a 10-year-old reading level. It appears to be a formulaic book he dashed off in a week, and I wish I had never wasted a credit on it.

This is truly a 5 star book.***** I couldn't put it down. "Just one more chapter, just ONE more chapter." I started it on Monday night and finished it Tuesday afternoon. If you read the earlier reviews, you know the plot. Peter, Katherine's husband and her children's step father, not only sabotaged the "sail" by trying to commit murder on the high seas, he was a cheat as well. Lots of twists and turns in this book and the action was fast paced. Get ready for the surprise ending. For those who have abandoned Patterson, because some of his more recent books just haven't measured up, now is the time to rediscover this author. Read it! You will not be disappointed.

Another fast-paced page-turner from Patterson, et. al. I actually enjoyed this one quite a bit. It's the story of a family taking a summer sail boat trip, but little do they know what's in store for them! As usual, Patterson throws in some good plot twists (although you could see a lot of them coming), evil villains, and quick action. I would give this one a mild recommendation - not as good as The Quickie or the Alex Cross stories, but better than some of his other recent fare.

By far this one was the best of all the new ones I had to read this summer. It of course is a little predictable, but isn't that what makes reading fun for some of us? I love to guess, this time I was WRONG, and that doesn't happen too often. I was drawn in by the first chapter and then could not stop. No laundry, no cooking, just reading. The quick chapters make it fast to read "just one more". The ending was a surprise to me, but so were several of the events. I hate to give anything away but if you are choosing between Evanovich, Scottoline or this to put your money into, this one is worth it! Now onto Deaver as soon as it comes up as wish granted~

A book that is a fast read, that sweeps you along with the action, pulls you in and you ride with them on an adrenaline rush. Portrays some of the upheaveal present in todays families, some of the struggles of growing up, doing so in a realistic manner.

This was a good story. It was very suspenseful, with lots of unexpected twists and turns. It's a quick read; I read the whole thing in one day. It's entertaining, but not particularly challenging reading. I'd recommend this for a rainy Saturday, or some reading entertainment while on vacation.

The only thing that ever bothers me about James Patterson's writing is the many many short chapters. No matter how many pages the book has, there are always over 100 chapters. It kind of makes for choppy reading. That said, I must confess to loving this book!

In an effort to bring the family together again, very rich Kathryn takes 2 months off work for a family vacation aboard their very large sailboat (read yacht). Her brother-in-law Jake plays captain and Kari, Mark and Ernie are along for the ride. Everyone is distant and doing their own thing...until the boat starts taking on lots of water. Then the action kicks up a notch and everyone slowly pulls together and you see a real family fighting for their lives.
I liked everyone though the kids originally got on my nerves with their spoiled behavior. That behavior changed real fast once the trouble started. I didn't like Peter from the very beginning thinking he was too smooth and rather smarmy. Well I guess I have to make one change to my original statement, actually there were two things that bothered me about this book. The second one was the gratuitous sex and dirty sex talk. It just wasn't needed as saying someone was having an affair would have been sufficient (or saying they went to a hotel but leaving out the details, yeah that would have worked too). It was just a strange shift from the Dunne's fighting for their lives and the ridiculous sex scenes. I thought it was suspenseful enough and the surprises were expected but not entirely. I mean you knew something was going to go wrong but what actually happened was mostly a surprise. All in all I enjoyed Sail and must say that I wanted to kick Peter in the balls too. Good for you Ernie!

This book had a few twists & turns which made for a good story which kept my attention. The main character was someone you rooted for - a good person. You will like reading about their adventure and find yourself rooting for the Dunne Family.
This was a great read. I honestly couldnt put it down, because the story sucks you in so much so that you"HAVE TO" find out what happens next. Perfect book for sitting at the beach, or your front porch while enjoying the summer.

This book was amazing, I really did love it. It was alot more than I expected it to be. There was alot of law n order in it which I didn't know. I thought there would be more with the boat and the family. I did think it was a great book and a fast read. I had it done in 4 days flat but I really kept at it. I didn't put it down for long. It is a must read for any Patterson fan! ENJOY! I don't want to spoil stuff so I'm keeping the review brief.

I kept hoping that it would get better, but I started to suspect credibility when the young widow and her family takes off on a sailing vacation (after the husband/father had died while sailing?). I also had a hard time believing that anyone can swim in a sailboat's engine compartment, or some of the other details that were getting harder and harder to swallow.
Like another reviewer stated, short (1 to 2 page) chapters seemed like the authors needed to stretch the number of pages needed to meet the editor's demand for a longer book. Extraneous story lines also seemed like they were added to 'fill out' the book, not make it more interesting.
Better writing for the last few chapters might have rescued this book for me, but I'm not sure I'll keep watch for another Patterson book.

I read this book while I was deployed overseas, as it was on a stack of freebies that were sent over. I had just finished reading an article about the author and the sheer numbers of books he writes, so I was intrigued. After reading it, I'd be hard-pressed to ever pick up another one of his books - it was that bad. If you get stuck in a middle seat on an airplane with nothing to do, I guess it's better than reading the SkyMart, but only because it won't make you buy something stupid. I'm a big classic literature fan, so maybe I expect too much substance. I didn't think it was going to be Dostoevsky, but I also thought a popular author could conjur up a tail befitting of his best seller status. I'll be leaving this one at the gate of the next airport I visit...somebody will read it I suppose.
I really enjoy this book; I put off reading it due to some of the reviews. I will not do that again, I like Patterson always have, I should have pick the book up sooner.

Really enjoyed this one. It is the first one I have read where he collaborated with Howard Roughan, and will now look for more of these. Only complaint, it was so good I couldn't put it down and so I finished it too fast! The plot seemed evident early but the resolution and consequences were not foreseen so it was still most satisfying.
A quick read, somewhat predictable. Seems that transitions were not used as effectively as they could have beeen.
I loved this book~I found once I got to the end of a chapter, I couldn't wait to start the next! Super beach read....don't start it if you don't have the time to sit down with it..it's addictive! Definately a book you can do in 2 days or less!

What started out as a very predictable and almost boring story did a 180 and knocked me off my feet! Sail introduces us to the family Dunneheart surgeon mom Katherine, her brother in law Jake and Katherines children Mark, Carrie and Ernie. They are taking the family yacht on a vacation for some quality time and family bonding since the death of Stuart, Katherines first husband. At first glance, it appears a family vacation is the last thing this group of people need and instead should opt for some intensive therapy. Mark is using drugs, Carrie jumps overboard in an apparent suicide attempt and the youngest seems to be overlooked and forgotten by everyone else.
Mother Nature at her worst, explosions and murder are just a small taste of what the Dunne family has in store for them on this vacation. Once the story got past the beginning and I began to feel a connection, I couldnt tear myself away. Everything from what happens to the family and why to who is behind it and why was intense and it doesnt end there. The story throws twist after twist all the way to the end of the book, leaving me with my mouth hanging open in shock and surprise.
My Final Verdict: If you like to be surprised by a book and enjoy having the rug ripped out from under you, I highly recommend this story. A passenger left this behind on our aircraft and having nothing to read till our next flight, I decided to take a quick peek. I've read Patterson's Sunday's at Tiffanys and wasn't impressed, so I wasn't expecting much but Wow!!! I couldn't put this book down! I loved the plot twists and the fast paced storyline, kept on telling myself "just one more chapter" only to start on the next chapter immediately because I loathed to not know WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!! This is a keeper!
I've just discovered James Patterson books. This book is action packed and will leave you on the edge of your seat until the very end. What begins as a family vacation to reconnect with her kids turns into a fight for their lives. Just when I thought I had an idea of what was going on and where the plot was heading, I'd get and unexpected surprise. If I was the main character, I'd never go on vacation again. The poor woman. I was very pleased with the ending. This book would make an awesome movie!

This story line and the way it is written is more like a lame 'fluff' work. The premise is a good one but the wordage doesn't fit the senario and the way it unfolds. This is like a tongue in cheek dialogue that leaves much to be desired by the reader. I was very disappointed. Mr. Patterson generally does a much better job. This is like he teamed up with Janet Evanovich to write a tongue in cheek farce. He adopted Stuart Woods concept of two or three page chapters. It works well for Mr Woods and Stone Barrington; but not for Patterson in this case. I give this book two thumbprints down. It was a quick read though so the pain was short lived.

Hardly surviving the storm the boat suddenly explodes leaving the family swimming in the ocean without any help to come.
Meanwhile back in New York Peter Carlyle plays the distressed husband, secretly dreaming about of his wife's inherited millions which soon will be his.
When suddenly a fisherman shows of his huge catch and a Coke bottle, containing a desperate message written by the family Dunne that they are alive on an island, falls out of the animals mouth.

I understand that James Patterson is a mass market brand name but I honestly didn't understand that this book got published written as it is. The plot is easy but could be much more refined with details and most of all with action. In the end the family is sitting on an island trying to survive.

Honestly, I didn't think that this was worth the wait. Definitely somewhat predictable. James Patterson has much better books out there.
Another great book. I finished it in two days while on vacation. Could have easily finished it one if I wasn't sight seeing as well.

Definelty different than most of JP books. Still a good read. Suspenseful, but too much dram at times.
