This was a good piece of naval fiction. The hero wasn't perfect, not everything went his way, and there was no 'evil midshipman.' It came across as very real.

I was a bit suspicious when two of the main characters fell in love so quickly. But I guess when you are in the 19th century British Navy and only home maybe one month out of twelve, you have to rush things.

I also have the sequel. If the second is as good as the first. then it is a shame there are only two books in this series.
