Frankly, the best part of this book was the cover -- although I have a hard time believing the hunk pictured is only 30 years of age (like the hero in the book). This story had a lot of problems. The only surprise I found in this book was -- that a publisher printed it. The reader knew every thing that was going to occur chapters before it did happened to the characters. To understate my feelings about this book: This is one predictable novel.

The thing that bugged me was related to the Syndicate. How could the members of this clandestine group rustle cattle and murder folks wthout a single person in the region noticing? No one knew anything about the Syndicate.

This is one of those stories that started slowly and then cut back on its speed. There just wasn't enough going on; the two main characters spent all their time ruminating about their lost 7 years. If Hunter loved this woman so much, why didn't he go to Boston and explain things? He was so in love with Mere that Hunter waited 7 years until Meredith Connolly returned to Salvation Falls? These two characters were bland and boring.

Yucton and Kincaid were interesting twists to the plot but they stayed mum through 9/10's of the story. There's a mystery but it wasn't presented in an interesting manner. By now, readers may feel that I didn't enjoy this book much -- and they would be right.
