This is a departure from the normal Patterson novels. This book is truly amazing. Be sure that you have tissues ready as this book will surely make you cry.

Really good book. The title throws you off, you think Sam is a lover/boyfriend etc. Nice fast read, a little romance, but not too gushy. Sweet.

I really enjoyed this book. Quick read. Couldn't put it down. Reminded me of The Notebook and The Bridges of Madison County.

Heart warming not at all like Patterson's Mystery books. This is a two hankie story. Loved it!!

It amazes me that the James Patterson can write such graphic stories as the Alex Cross series and also romance stories. I have read all of his books and couldn't put them down. "Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas" was the first book to make me cry in years. Because of this I was excited to read this book.
"Sam's Letters to Jennifer" is a great but predictable book. If you like romantic quick reads than this is the book for you. All of Patterson's books are fast paced and hard to put down. This is no exception...It will have you thinking about your own grandmother and the stories of her life.

This is an awesome book! I have no idea how Patterson is able to write form a woman's point of view, but he does an amazing job. One of my favorites!!!

Again, James Patterson doesn't fail us. His thrillers are easy-to-read and hard-to-put-down, and he keeps me happy with his romance novels too. I can generally read his books in a day or two (I hate to put them down!), and cried over this heartwarming story.

Picked it up because it was James Patterson. Not his typical story. Wonderful love story, tear-jerker, heart-grabber. Keeps you guessing and flipping to the next page eagerly. Recommended highly.

Not nearly as wonderful as Suzanne's Diary, but still a great read.

Read this in about one day. Very sweet.Catches you at the beginning because you are wondering who Sam is.
James Patterson is a master! I don't read romances, but Sam's Letters to Jennifer and Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas were AWESOME!! (And this review is coming from a guy.)
I read all of Patterson's books and these two are definitely different from his usual string of murder mystery thrillers, but still of the highest quality!!
I absolutely recommend this book to anyone!! (And yes, it's OK for a guy to enjoy a love story!)
Definitely 5+ stars!!

James Patterson has written a delightful book that showcases the love between a grandmother and her granddaughter. It was an unexpected change of pace from the other James Patterson books I'd read, and I completely enthralled. Be sure to have a box of tissues handy for this one.

I've read every book James Patterson has written but I definitely think this is his best.
Helpful Score: 1
A very touching and powerful story about love and second chances. Sam's letters to Jennifer discloses some deep secrets and by example encourages Jennifer to give love and life a second chance. Furthermore, it captures the enduring bond between grandmother and granddaughter. It's a quick read but it evokes sentimentality that will pull at the strings of your heart. This tearjerker story shows that the only predictable thing about life is that it's never predictable, and that one should never truly give up hope.

A very surprising book from James Patterson. I listened to this on CD and it was WONDERFUL. I think I like Patterson's love stories better than his crime stories.

Awesome story of family love and knowing your family. Sam is a grandmother who writes letters to her granddaughter Jennifer just before she goes into a coma. Sam's letters help Jennifer to understand not only her grandmother and her life better.. but come to some realizations of her own life and where it is going. Awesome read. If you enjoy any of James Patterson, this book is no different. Quick and easy reading. This particular book is hardcover, but that's fine.. it's one I have to share!

This book made me think of my grandmother, made me miss her. I very rarely cry reading a book BUT this one......still touches me just thinking about it. I am not a big fan of James Patterson's other books...but the this type is great. (Sundays at Tiffany's and Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas) All great books.

If you're looking for typical James Patterson fare, keep looking. When I read this book I was amazed that it was written by the same James Patterson who writes the books of mystery, intrigue, murder, and crime... How someone can transition from that genre to this is mind boggling to me. He's truly just a gifted author to be able to write so well in both genres.
This is a quick read, and a really enjoyable story. Just be sure you have a box of tissues nearby! This is a story about love and loss... If you can get through this without feeling some tugs at your heartstrings, well then, I think just a tiny piece of your soul might be missing.
If you like this book, you'll like Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas, also by Patterson. It's sort of like a Nicholas Sparks novel, only (in my own opinion) better written, (and I like a good Nicholas Sparks every so often).
You know, I just listed Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas and Sam's Letters to Jennifer on my PBS booklist, but I think I need to read then both again before someone requests them.

I was on page 32 I believe when I started reading this book yesterday at 3pm. At about 11:31pm last night I completed the book. I got teary eyed in spots and laughed many times throughout the book. I felt like I was right there with Jennifer and the other people in the book. I was there in the Lake swimming with them. I felt like I was part of this book. The book touched me! So much of this book hit home with me. It either was some how related or close to it. I could feel others pain and others love! What an inspiration and love story and a story of hope all rolled into one! I highly recommend this book. Read it from cover to cover in one sitting and you will NOT be disappointed!

Get out the tissues! I loved this book!
One of the best books of love and loss that I've read in a very long time.
Jennifer's grandmother, Sam, reveals some secrets about herself in a series of letters as Jennifer tries to deal with some issues in her own life. This book was quick and easy to read.
Two memorable love stories entwined in one moving novel of hope and heartache.
This an easy read. If you enjoyed "Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas", you will love this book as well. It is the story of a granddaughter and grandmother who struggle to find true love.
Wonderful... Wonderful! I couldn't put it down so finished it in a day. Teriffic love stories!
Wonderful book! Quick and easy read. I wish Patterson would write more like this!
James Patterson is so versitile in his writing. This is a beautiful love story, sure to be enjoyed by all.
I've yet to meet a James Patterson book I didn't like-this one is no exception and has the usual element of surprise found in all of his books!!

Great book by Patterson. This one is even better than Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas.
I'm a big J. Patterson fan, and was pleasantly surprised by a book that is different from his mystery/thrillers. It's a wonderful story, beautifully written. I loved it.

Good read but not as good as suzanne's Diary to Nicholas. One that you will laugh and cry throughout.
I don't think that I have read many of James Patterson's books so I am not sure if his writting style is the same through out his career but I thoroughly enjoyed the story but the short chapters and nonexistant imagery made me give this book a three out of five. It is a really quick read and a great story, just not my type of writing style. I prefer more substance to the surrounding environment that the characters move through. It was almost like the main character was explaining every move that she made. There was no break from the story to describe the scenery or emotional states of the characters. AT least not to the extent that I would expect from a writer with his reputation.
I just started this book friday.I love it already.I can tell it is going to be great.
Unlike Patterson's Alex Cross thrillers, this sentimental tale does not translate well to audio. The plot twists seem all the more absurd when read aloud, and the audiobook's maudlin music, inserted during the story's poignant moments, is as distracting and disturbing as a TV laugh track. Jennifer, a newspaper columnist who's grieving the death of her husband, has more reason to mourn when her beloved grandmother, Sam, falls into a coma. Jennifer rushes to Sam's home in Lake Geneva, Wis., where she finds a packet of letters addressed to her. The letters detail her grandmother's life story, including an affair she had with a mysterious man. Jennifer takes comfort in the letters, and at the same time, embarks on her own romance with Brendan, an old friend.
I loved this book! Such a tear jerker, make sure you have the kleenex handy!
What a lovely bookk! I read it in one day. This is such a different book for Patterson to write - it doesn't have the harshness of murder and mayhem. It's hope and love.
This is very similar to "Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas". Different story, same premise, just as many tears!
If you liked Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas you'll love this. Even if you never read the other book this one is great. Quick read, excellent story.
This was a little sappy and a little predictable, but overall a good, quick read. And sometimes sappy and predictable is really what's called for.
Great book! If you enjoy this style, you should read Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas. Great books!
Hearbreaking love story.
A wonderful book!!!!!
I had a hard time putting it down, but had to so I could...hmmmm, make supper, put kids to bed.....hahaha Without those responsibilites I would have read it straight through.
I did manage to finish it in one day, an easy read, but a fantastic story. I laughed and I cried, my mark of a great book!!!!

short and sweet
Different than his other books but still enjoyable!
great interesting, sad read
I really enjoyed this double love story book of letters from a grandmother to her granddaughter. Like all the James Patterson books I have read, the chapters are short, making it an easy book to read when you don't have long stretches of time.
I really liked this book. Very nice story. This was the first book that I had read by James Patterson.
Definately a different kind of book for James Patterson, yet a very refreshing good book.
A very interesting tale with quite a twist and some unexpected turns to go along with it....... a thought provoking and entertaining read....or listen.
If you have or have had a special relationship with your grandmother, I think this book will touch your heart in a very special way! Again, James Patterson has surprised us with a wonderful, touching and page turning novel!
Jennifer's grandmother has fallen and is in a coma. Jennifer rushes to Lake Geneva, where she grew up, to be with her. After visiting the hospital, she's back at her grandmother's house, ready to go to bed in her old room and finds packets of letters all addressed to her and she knows these contain her grandmother's story that she has begged to hear for years. The letters contain the memories of a marriage and a great love that has endured over the years.
Pull out the tissues on this one! It is a great book and fast read!!!
Out of the ordinary for KJmes Patterson but still a good book. Very fast read.
Until I read this book I thought Patterson only wrote suspense/thrillers/mystery novels. This was a wonderful book and I could not put this down. I read it in a few hours. I even got emotional towards the end.

It was such a wonderfully touching and endearing story. The summers up at the lake are so relatable to any reader in summers of their own. Jennifer's love for Sam and ability to find love again are so touching. Quick read, highly recommend, if you love Nicholas Sparks or Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas you'll love this story.
A totally different book from what James Patterson usually writes. Could hardly put it down until I finished it.
A desperate phone call sends Jennifer back to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin to the resort village where she grew up, to care for her grandmother Samantha. While she was alone in her house, Sam suffered a terrible fall and is currently comatose in the hospital. Returning to the place where she had spent so many happy summers, Jennifer has no idea that she will soon experience not one but two of the most extraordinary love stories she could ever know.
The first is completely unexpected. In a series of letters that Jennifer discovers which are addressed to her, Sam reveals a huge secret that she has kept concealed for decades: Her greatest love is not the man she was married to for all those years. As Jennifer reads about this passionate partnership, she learns more about love's imperatives and secrets than she ever dreamed possible.
And then comes the biggest surprise of all. At a time when she thought she could never - and would never - experience love again, Jennifer lets her guard down. In that one unguarded moment, Jennifer is swept up in the greatest, most amazing, most exhilarating and emotional flight she's ever known. But, just as suddenly, she learns that this new love comes with an almost unbearable cost. Jennifer doesn't think she can survive the pain - but reading her grandmother's letters to her, Jennifer begins to believe that love may help her find a way.
I haven't read that many books by James Patterson - only two so far - but I really am intrigued that he can write so well in such a variety of genres. I found this book to be absolutely delightful! It was emotionally poignant; a captivating love story - actually two separate love stories - beautifully intertwined. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and give it an A+!
