Crispin is one of a handful of pro-writers who can be relied on to produce work that stays true to the spirit of the original series. This one does that admirably when it concentrates on the title character and his relationships with Amanda and Spock, but bogs down when burdened with an action-adventure B-line plot and not just one, but two, semi-romance C-line plots.
