Well, it has the same problems that a lot of the sci-fi books have, namely, the person who discovers the aliens turns out to be the one that goes and meets the aliens. Also, everyone spends a lot of page time considering this supposedly brilliant young gadfly, when we apparently are worried about China and the aliens.
