I am reviewing this book only to warn readers.
This is perhaps the worst historical novel I have ever read. To save future readers torment I have literally thrown it in the trash.
I am not a quitter; rarely will I stop a reading a book even when it is dull. I am hopeful, you see, that the author has deliberately used dull or mundane passages in order to contrast dramatically the climax of the story. I have read books that redeem themselves with a wonderful ending. Even when the plot of this book began to echo the novel, The Count of Monte Cristo, with Union gold instead of buried treasure, I was hopeful. Unfortunately that prison scene only marked the crest of the hill and the rest was downhill to underground. The setting is pre and post Civil War era, however, the post era lacks for historical references that it seems like a contemporary romp. Overall, he book appears to be mostly about the sexual escapades of the main characters loosely wrapped in a mediocre historical veneer.
I, for one, will seriously hesitate and research reviews before giving this author another chance.
So readers, please note, you have been warned.

The boy who left to fight for the Confederate army twenty years ago had been a trusting fool. He had trusted the girl who promised to wait for him. He had trusted the friend who betrayed him. Now he has come home to Alabama to avenge what they stole from him: his heart, his soul, his world.
Laurette Howard, too, lost her innocence in the cruelest of ways-with news that the boy she loved had died in the war. After a loveless marriage, she contented herself with caring for the sick, knowing her own heart could be healed.
Then Sutton Vane arrived in Mobile, shattering her composure, releasing the wanton, passionate woman that had been locked away. She surrendered totally to a passion so scandalous, it could only be destiny...But was it a passion calculated to destroy her...or to deliver the sweet promise of a love that refused to die?
Due to adult content and language this book is for adults only!!!!
