Stop! Unless you've read the first book in the MAXIMUM RIDE series, THE ANGEL EXPERIMENT, you should not read this review. Although MAXIMUM RIDE: SCHOOL'S OUT--FOREVER, could be read alone, you'll do much better if you read THE ANGEL EXPERIMENT first. Trust me. Read the first book, and then this one, and you'll end up thanking me. Now, if you promise you've already read the first book in the series, hold on to your hats, because the action heats up significantly in this second installment.
Twenty-four hours after Max killed Ari, the bird kids are once again on the run. The whole gang is together again and in one relatively unharmed piece--Max, Fang, Iggy, Gasman, Nudge, Angel, and stray dog, Total. Max is trying hard to forget that when it came to escaping the Erasers (half-human, half-werewolf, read the first book!), she had no choice but to kill Ari in their fight for freedom.
Except, surprise, Ari isn't dead! Jeb and the other doctors at the "school" are still trying to recapture them, and Fang has been deathly wounded. Max knows there is no choice but to get Fang to a real hospital, and she's not even really surprised when the FBI turns up to question them. What does surprise her is the appearance of Anne Walker, a head-honcho who wants Max and the gang to come to her home, where she can protect them, feed and clothe them, and study them. Fang still needs rest, and a roof over their heads and food in their belly at regular intervals sounds like a good idea. Although she's wary of Anne's true motives, Max and her flock move, temporarily, into Anne's home. They're even enrolled in school--a real school, not a cover for psychotic men in white coats to perform horrible experiments on them--and although that doesn't turn out so great, the time they spend at Anne's is helping everyone to forget some of the pain they've suffered.
But the Erasers show up, as they always do, and Anne turns out not to be as wonderful as she first appeared, as also seems to happen on a regular basis. Not-dead Ari is determined to destroy the flock, especially Max, once and for all, and the Voice in Max's head is getting increasingly annoying as to her duty to save the world.
This second book in the series is as full of adventure, heart-stopping adrenaline, and edge-of-your-seat action as the first book was. I loved the newfound powers that many in the flock gained in this installment, as well as Total's ability to talk. I can't wait to see what happens next, especially in regards to Itex and how it figures in with the seemingly imminent destruction of Earth. Kudos to Mr. Patterson for another winner in the MAXIMUM RIDE series. The only thing I hate is that it will probably be another year or so before we find out what happens next!

The second book in the series. Now the flock is on the move and they are actually trying to discover their past. Where are their real parents and why did they give them up? What will do they do when they find them? What is it like to have a real family? Do they want to go back and live with them? And what about Max and the clone? A gripping book for anyone of any age!
Helpful Score: 3
Not the usual James Patterson, but interesting none the less. The experimental lab has done a number on several children, and you are taken on a wild suspenseful RIDE.

Brave bird-kid Max and her flock fly south on a perilous quest to find their parents, after having rescued Angel and recovered secret documents about their origins. But just when they think they've finally escaped the hungry claws of evil Erasers, they're discovered by an FBI agent and forced to face perhaps an even worse nightmare: going to school. There's no such thing as an ordinary day when Max's "homework" includes decoding documents, deciphering when (and how) she's supposed to save the world, and learning to face what may her greatest enemy: herself. A clone. Max II.

Second book in the Maximum Ride series. James Patterson wrote Maximum Ride as a science-fiction series for children and teens, but this 60-year-old finds it very enjoyable too.
In Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment we meet Max (a 14-year-old girl), her flock, the people who want to kill or capture them, and their enforcers known as Erasers. Yes, I said "flock"; Max and her five young associates have been genetically engineered to have functional wings and other bird-like traits. School's Out - Forever continues the flock's quest to find out who made them and who their parents are.
There are plot twists galore, as usual with Patterson's books, and trying to guess just where the author is taking the story is guaranteed to be an exercise in futility. As stepdad to two teenage girls, I found myself wishing I could adopt Max and the entire flock, although I will admit to hesitating when it came to Gasman. :) Young or old, if you enjoy James Patterson's work (or haven't yet sampled a Patterson book), give the Maximum Ride series a try.

Picking up right where the first book left off, Maximum Ride: Schools Out - Forever takes Max and the rest of the flock on a whirlwind adventure. The flock is still on the run from some of the same old baddies, but now they have new foes to deal with as well, including a Max clone. However, theyre not entirely on their own, and help comes from some unexpected people. But are they really trying to help? Only time will tell.
And not only do they have to worry about staying alive, grades now hang in the balance for the flock. Once again, they find themselves in school... but this time its for real. New challenges are faced every day, with classes, teachers, an evil principal, field trips, and even possible romances, all while new powers are being discovered and developed.
With this book, James Patterson manages to prove once again what a great storyteller he is. Id never even read any of his books before, but Maximum Ride has turned me into a true fan. Fun and enjoyable to read, with a great plot and interesting characters, it will not disappoint. Full of surprising twists and turns, Schools Out - Forever will leave fans feeling satisfied, yet eagerly anticipating the next Maximum Ride.

Even though this is about Max, it is not quite the same as in Lake House. But it is very good and I could not put it down, and I am anxious to get the rest of this series. James Patterson is my favorite.
Very good book. Of the science fiction type

Loved it!
I thought this book was pretty good. Fast read.
Love the Max books.
I actually ordered this book for my 11 year old daughter. She got the first book for Christmas and couldn't put it down - same with this one. She said this book had funny and sad parts, but was a great book. She also just got through reading the third one and highly recommends the series to tweens/teens!
This is a great , fast read. Kids who Fly!!
Love this Patterson series about "Max"...and am looking forward to getting the third, "Maximum Ride: Save the World. D
Just as fast paced as book one, a real page turner. James Patterson knows how to spin a good book.

Start with When the Wind Blows and LakeHouse and then Maximum Ride 1-4. It is an awesome series. I'm 70 and loved it and have given it to my grandkids to read.

These books are an ok read for me. I am going to keep going with the series because i am curious about what these kids can do. However i just feel these books are kind of slow and drawn out. I did not care for the ending of book 2 it was almost like you need book 3 to finish the story. It just cuts off and continues in bk 3...just ok for me
Great book.
Can't wait to read the rest of the series!

Awesome book! Can't wait to read the next one! James Patterson keeps you on the edge of your seat whether he's writing for adults or young adults.
the second book in the series, fun, fun, fun!!!!
another book about the "winged children" max, fang, iggy, nudge, gasman and angel. i couldn't put this book down as i "had" to continue reading to find out what happened to the kids. the ending was a complete "shocker'! be sure to read the first book "maximum ride:the angel experiment" to get to know the kids and what they have and are facing against their enemies. the next book is "maximum ride:saving the world and other extreme sports". any fan of james patterson will enjoy this book.
Interesting fictional book for all ages, young adults would enjoy as well as adults.

The sequel to Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment, Max, Fang, Iggy, Gasman, Nudge, and Angel are being hunted by killers. To make matters worse, Max is sure that a microchip has been inserted under her skin - leading freakish forces of evil to ambush them at any moment.

The Maximum Ride series is a great group of books. I really enjoyed them. I am anxiously waiting the next one after Max.
Wow! I was surprised. I wasn't expecting much from the book and it totally blew me away. Excellent story and well written. I hadn't expected anything quite so fantastic from the author, particularly since it was a huge swing from his typical stories, but the dialogue was excellent and the characters jumped right off the pages and really lived for me.
Instead of his typical mystery...this story borders on fantasy and sci fi. It's part of a series about children who are genetically altered and fighting for their existence in a world...well...in the same world the X-Men inhabit.
Well done, Mr. Patterson. I like the change.

The flying kids strike again! A hit!
This was a fun read! It focusses on kids; kids way of thinking, kids values and kid feelings, but it was still an interesting read for a fantasy/sci fi fan.
Awesome book!!!
