"Take a Quantum Leap into the universe of Shrodinger's Cat Trilogy. Its a wise and wacky look at our recent past seen through a fun house mirror .. its a satire on our violent, inexplicable, wonderful world ..and its a mind trip inward to expose our deepest hopes and fears" ( from back cover )

This book was terribly disappointing. It sounded like a fun book by a good author, but I really couldn't get into it. It's a long series of non-sequitors that, frankly, I couldn't keep straight (thereby missing some of the humor) unless I had been keeping a scorecard from the beginning as to who was doing what in each incarnation.

Disappointing.
I'm one of those people who loved the original Illuminatus Trilogy, mock Pynchon though they are. After reading this one, I was left with the opinion that Shea was the one responsible for what I loved most in the original books. Wilson's writing is as usual completely over the top, but without Shea's influence this book comes across as self-indulgent, not particularly funny, and derivative as it can be. Maybe Wilson should have stuck to his job as editor rather than venturing into composition.
Skip this one. Instead, look for the original illuminatus Trilogy.
