We have really enjoyed this book. We've done quite a few of the experiements which are simple and fun. It's a fun cross between a cookbook and a science book.
good recipes - explain the science behind why bread rises, mixing of differnt ingredients forms a new product, etc. very good! homeschool.
Reading level: 5th grade; Scholastic books; nine chapters delve into microbes, enzymes, plants we eat, and more.
This was one of my favorite books as a kid. I highly recommend it to any parent, whether you are into science, want your kid to be, or just want a book that will give you some cool rainy day activities to do with stuff you probably already have in the house. Vicki Cobb has written lots more books since but this is the classic.
Your kitchen will be transformed into a laboratory worthy of a mad scientist as you make startling discoveries....A great book to give kids a legitimate excuse to play with their food!
What makes popcorn pop? How does jelly jell? Why does bread rise?
