I loved this book. It was almost as good as Ahab's Wife. If you love adventure on the sea with women and children aboard you will find this book very interesting. It shows how strong we women can be and how love can get you through it all.
My own con about this book is that it was too short. I could have read soooo much more....

The first few chapters had me wondering if this book fell into the young adult category. The vocabulary and plot seemed so basic and not luring me to get caught up in the story.
Definitely a talented writer, about mid-way through the book she displays her ability to adeptly lure the reader into identifying with the physical setting for time and place and the conflicted emotions of the main characters.

My interest in this book did not peak until about half way through it, but at that point it became pretty exciting. The subject matter of life on the sea and all the perils that brings was something I'd never read about and description was good, if not a bit wordy, though. The husband/wife relationship is quite interesting, as well, as the author describes how they come to really understand and respect one another. That stayed with me.
