The Seamstress was written by a woman who survived the horrors of a concentration camp named Ravensbruck. There were more than 85,000 women held there; only one in 20 made it out. Yet the tone of the book is matter-of-fact. It is not a siren of drama at it could be. This makes it tolerable to read, as one imagines the conditions people were forced to endure. A deeply moving story, at the same time sad yet also triumphant in that she did, indeed, survive it all, using her intelligence, her wit and her incredible inner strength. She brought her sister and a close friend through it all with her, and lived to raise a family of her own. D.

This is a very powerful memoir of a young woman's survival through the Holocaust. Sara Tuvel Bernstein lived through pre-world war II Germany as a spirited, indedependent teen who forged ahead with life. When she was interred, she took care of her family of sister and friends the best ways she could. She proved herself courageous, practical, and strong.
This is one of the most detailed accounts of survival through the death camps of the Holocaust that I have read. It details life in pre-war Romania and Hungary, and the slow, insiduous reach of the Nazi tentacles into the lives of Jewish citizens of those countries. Seren Tuvel survives the hardships and starvation of Ravensbruck concentration camp. What I found illuminating was the fact that the level of starvation endured by the female inmates of Ravensbruck far outdistanced that suffered by long-lasting survivors from parts of Auschwicz. From other accounts of Auschwicz, the Jews of that camp were extremely poorly treated. This book tells the story without rancor or hatred, in complete detail.
This is a very moving true story about the amazing survival of a Jewish woman during WW II in Germany. I was inspired by her courage, inventiveness and determination to help her family members and herself survive against all odds.

Very compelling book about Romanian Jewish women holocaust survivors. I could not have read it had the author shown her emotions, it was so brutal. Very hard to put down. Still it is told in a warm and heartfelt manner, without rancor.
This is a fantastic book to read if you are interested at all in the history of the Holocaust. it follows the story of a young girl and how she survived the war, often by luck, but more often by her own cunning of what was going on around her.
The story just flows along, and is so engrossing. Once you start this book, it will be hard to put down. It will make you smile; it will make you cry.
