I keep trying her books but I don't like her writing style, just too much descriptions and TMI that just isn't important at all, I got to page 75 but only by skimming and then I just gave it up
I doubt I try anymore by French she just doesn't have a writing style that grabs me and her stories just plod along too slow for me

Disappointed- no real mystery here. Was unsatisfying and did not enjoy the characters. Felt like she had to write something to fulfill a contract and just threw anything together. Miss her earlier books...

Beautifully written book, simple plot but exquisite story. Read it!! Those other reviewers must have been in their teens or something, without enough life experience. This is her best book yet.

After 25 years on the Chicago police force and a divorce, Cal Hooper decides to move to an Irish village. A local kid's brother is missing and he asks Cal to help find him. What Cal discovers is layers of darkness and secrets.
This is an atmospheric psychological tale but not much of a mystery. The story is slow getting started but French's prose is spellbinding. The characters are well-developed but I do miss the Dublin Murder Squad. I would sum up this book as not one of her best but still worth a read.
