This is the first MHC book I've read. It was definitely a good read. There are 2 plots going on in this story and both were good. Nicholas Spencer is developing an anticancer vaccine but then disappears and millions of dollars are missing from the company. Carley DeCarlo is a reporter who is assigned to the case. She doesn't believe that Nicholas was a con man who swindled people out of money to invest in the Gen-Stone Pharmaceutical company. She also believes after investigations that someone in Gen-Stone was purposely sabotaging the anticancer vaccine.
To make matters more interesting there is a psychopath on the loose. Ned's wife died in a horrible accident and he believes Nicholas Spencer and everyone connected is to blame. Ned sold his house and invested money into Gen-Stone and then lost everything when the scandal came out. How many people will he hurt or kill before he can be stopped?

True to form, Clark didn't end the book the way you'd expect.

love this author...
Took a while to get into, but turned out good...
Excellent read, kept me listening to the final tracks.
I think this book is a little different than some of her other books. It's about a reporter named Carley that has been asked by her stepsister to prove that she didn't help her husband steal the life savings of his employees. Carley herself becomes a target herself when she starts searching for the truth.
One of those books you don't want to put down til the end...
The "Wueen of Suspense" Mary Higgins Clark, delivers a gripping tale of deception & tantilizing twists that might have been ripped from today's headlines.
A must read - I couldn't put it down until I read the last page.

Good book. Mary Higgins Clark is always a good read.
Carley is the stepsister of Lynn Spencer, whose charismatic husband, Nicholas, dies in the crash of his small plane as he is fleeing arrest for looting the medical company he founded, which had made claims of a cancer cure, now proved false. Myriad investors have lost much, sometimes everything; one is Ned Cooper, whose beloved wife died as a consequence of Nicholas Spencer's thievery, and who determines to take revenge, setting off on a killing spree. Assigned to do a feature about the Spencer case, Carley digs deep, uncovering clues to a conspiracy within Spencer's medical company, as well as to the possibility that the cancer cure worked after all. Can she get to the bottom of the mess before Ned Cooper, or the possible conspirators, take her out?
If only there were a cure for cancer and other ailments. This was another great one by Clark.

I have read only a few of Mary Higgins Clark's books, but have enjoyed each one. This one is no exception. This is a mystery involving the death of Nicholas Spencer, head of a medical research company, that has purportedly developed a vaccine for cancer. There are lots of twists and turns throughout this book, including a disgruntled stockholder on a vengeful rampage. I couldn't wait to see how this book ended.
My husband and I each read this book and enjoyed the mystery with its twists and turns. It is an easy read, yet intriguing. I would recommend it.
The "Qheen of Suspense", delicers a gripping tale of deception and tantalizing twists that might have been ripped from today's headlines.
