This book was okay, although I think that as the series goes on, it's getting a little redundant. For instance, I can't believe that the character, Lara, couldn't figure out that Jack was a vampire when she's such a sci-fi buff. I mean really, she thought of aliens and everything else but not a vampire??? Even Bella, the Twilight twit, was quicker to the jump than this girl. And, as for the continuing plot of the malcontents, it will probably run longer than it should just since catching a teleporting vampire is so difficult, but, sucker that I am for these books, I'll keep on reading them just for the laughs that happen within the story since I'm not really hooked on the plots anymore.

this is the 6th book in the love at stake series.
I love the humor in these books. They are quick reads with a story line that kept me interested. The author is very good at bringing in the main characters from her other books in the series. So you learn something new about them in each book.
This book is About Jack and how he meets Lara. He wants to keep tat he is vampire a secret from her, because he is scared it will make her leave him. So it is a story of that struggle and how love can overcome fear.
This is a good read, I recommend it.

Secret Life of a Vampire, Kerrelyn Sparks, Jack is a vampire throwing a bachelor party for his friend Ian. The party gets out of hand and the police are called. Thats when officer Lara Boucher and her partner show up to arrest the lot of them. The vampires simply do a little mind control and persuade the officers to forget what theyve seen and just leave, but surprise Lara can not be mind controlled and that is where the romance begins between Jack and Lara. The only thing that bothered me was the fact that Lara was such a lame police woman and that Sparks really did make her an over the top helpless damsel in distress, but otherwise it was a cute romance.

I am so glad I picked up the first book of this series. It seems to get better and better. Sparks has a good formula. One books is about a character that you know and love, and the next will be about one you haven't heard much about. Minor characters get their 15 minutes of fame too, while the main characters take a backseat for a whole book. It keeps it fresh. Ian is still my favorite, but Jack's story is good too!

Jack is throwing a bachelor party for his vamp friends when the police arrive because of noise complaints. When Jack discovers that he cannot wipe the memories of Office Lara Boucher, he becomes intrigued. Lara doesn't know what is going on, but she knows there is something different about this guy. When Jack teleports and saves her from a bad situation, she believes he may be an alien or a super hero. Jack knows he is falling in love with Lara, but is afraid to tell her he is a vampire.
This is the 6th book in Sparks' Love at Stake series. It was enjoyable, but there wasn't anything new in this book. My rating: 4 Stars.

For some reason I cannot stop reading this series, probably because I read the first book and then got all 8 on pbs. The books are easily read, and their are so many characters that you want to find out what happens next. That being said. As I consistently post, I am so appalled by her inability to portray a person of color without the average stereotype, i.e Dr. Phang and now Lara's roommate who was shot in a convenience store. I admire that they both got together and educated themselves. What I don't understand is why Lara doesn't speak with the "Gurrrl" and a neck snap, didn't they take the same classes. ugh.
Furthermore Lara seems very smart and by the time she finds out what Jack is (really aliens and you couldn't guess vampire by the time you made your list?), she acts like an idiot. So what your saying is it was ok when you thought he was an immortal or alien? The books have become a bit predictable: meet vampire. like vampire, kiss vampire, find out he is the "living dead" horror~!, run away, come back and finally have sex on page 300.

I really enjoy this series. Cannot get enough of this world created by Kerreylyn Sparks. You will enjoy this one if you enjoy reading the Love at Stake series. Jack is sexy and Italian and has met his match in a police woman who is not afraid to tackle the difficult. It also shows another aspect of the Malcontents, a more subtle abuse of us humans but still abuse. Funny in a lot of places.

Nothing's sexier than an man who can keep a secret.
A typical bachelor party is all about beers and beautiful women. A vampire bachelor party is no different -- except the men are drinking Blissky (whiskey-flavored synthetic blood). And no one can throw a party quite like Jack, the illegitimate son of the legendary Casanova. But when the party gets out of hand and the cops show up, Jack has some explaining to do . . . if only he wasn't struck speechless by the beauty of Officer Lara Boucher.
Lara is sure there's something more than a bachelor party going on. What is Jack hiding? And why is he so interested in the recent disappearance of young women all over town? Her investigation uncovers more than she wants to know, especially about this modern-day Casanova. But if she's ever to make detective, she'll need to expose all his secrets . . . if only her heart wasn't on the line.
