I thought there were some interesting ideas in this book, but as another reviewer commented, don't take it too seriously. I didn't read it as totally "anti-attachment" parenting, one could still take some of the ideas from it even if one is an attachment parent (although you probably have better things to do with your time than read this book). I personally wished sometimes that I'd had the kind of child that would take to these ideas ... I didn't. These seem geared more toward the family with the generally easy kid but the new parents need some guidance. But I do have friends who had kids that these ideas would have worked well for them. I think it could be a good shower gift, as long as the new mom doesn't seem to be leaning toward the attachment parenting philosophy.

This book helped me immensely with my first child. Any first time parent would benefit greatly from this book. It describes how parents can understand their baby's cries and body language. It really helped me meet my sons (and later my daughters) needs.

A needle in a haystack when it comes to finding quality books for new moms. This book was wonderful. Read it before and during baby. The key is to treat your baby with respect and listen/watch his/her ques. Tough but with patience is very doable.

I absolutely loved this book. I couldn't do everything to a "T", but the routine helped my husband and I immensely! Love, love, love it.

I thought this book was just ok. I got a couple good ideas out of there, but that's about it. I did like that she is the 'gentler' version of a baby trainer, but I personally just don't believe in training babies.
(I tend to gravitate towards the no-cry-it-out and Attachement Parenting styles.) I also found the information on breastfeeding to be incorrect and potentially harmful to a mother who desires to be successful in this area.
