While I generally enjoyed the writer's style, I was quite disappointed in the book on the whole. There is a teaser on the front cover of the book that says "he knows all of her secrets...except one". I kept expecting there to be some big reveal, waiting, waiting, waiting until the end of the last page. There were a lot of secrets between hero/heroine but nothing that seemed to be a major reveal. I was impatient with the book toward the end, kept waiting for something to happen. There was never a significant denouement in the book - a major "third act" peak of suspense or drama. The story overall I think lacked drama. I enjoyed the development of the love story but agree with another reviewer that I found her affair with the story's villain, who is also a known rapist, made her quite unappealing and unsympathetic.

Charming tale of betrayal, scandal, redemption, acceptance, & love. Ms.
Hunter is a master storyteller of this genre, & she does not disappoint.

I have loved all three of this series, but this is by far my favorite. The story is complex and the characters wonderfully written. The sensual love story is so well done and the emotions of the hero and heroine as complex as any romance novel I've read. It was interesting to read in context about the class issues and the legal, banking laws of the times in this novel. Madeline Hunter writes so that the story never gets bogged down, but draws very clear pictures of the society of the time. There is a fouth in the series due out Jan '09. I for one, can't wait.

I enjoyed this book, however, it wasnt the Best book Madeline Hunter has written. What was somewhat differant about this book was that Lady Roselyn and her Hero were not rich (as in money) but had wealth in other areas.Which was more realistic . I was disapointed That the Heroine had a relationship with the villian in the begining of the story. But here was passion and love even thru the twists and turns of the story line .So I would recommend this book even though it wasnt my favorite .
