Secrets of the Swingin' Big Band Era Author:Bob Wilder If you know absolutely NOTHING about the big band era, read George Simon's "The Big Bands" BUT DON'T BOTHER WITH THIS "THING". In many instances there are perhaps one or two sentences (RIGHT!) about a subject... and the guy claims to have insight. Further, misinformation (plus typos and poor organization) throughout a... more »nd not very imaginative at that, either. (i.e.: Marion Hutton, singer for Glenn Miller was the younger sister of Betty Hutton. This guy says she was the "older" one. He must've gotten that from the terrible Harry James book, also full of wrong stuff). He has the gall to spell Charlie Barnet's name with two "Ts" (I really believe the author didn't know any better. He writes about Ziggy Elman but never mentions,"And The Angels Sing", which Ziggy wrote and played in fralich rhythm and was his biggest success. Bet he didn't know that). A little homework would have benefited the writer greatly. But arrogance must stand above any question. I'd return the paperback (less than 1/2 inch thick with one or two SENTENCES on a given subject; sometimes he splurges with a whole paragraph) but I've already spent too much for the thing.. The guy has brass. The "Secret" part of the title remains a secret; is absolutely a misrepresentation. There oughta be a law: If you don't know don't make it up!« less
