This is a very short offering with a powerful message. It begins with the simple act of a young girl, that brings together an inner-city community. The story is told by each of those affected, and crosses lines of age, color, gender, class, and culture.

I found myself frustrated, at times, when each of the tellers would end their short tail, when, clearly, there was much more to tell. I wanted to get to know them better. But they told only enough for me to understand their reasons for being involved in this one piece of their life.

I hope other readers find this book inspiring. As for me, I have some seeds I want to plant right here in my own neighborhood :o)

This is the first book Ive read that was dropped off in my Little Free Library. It was the perfect choice, as the book is about members of a community coming together with a common goal. Each chapter of this short novel is from the perspective of a different neighbor, living in a run down part of Cleveland, Ohio. The voices in the novel are beautifully diverse and collectively they tell the story of how a neighborhood of immigrants and strangers started building a community garden, and building friendships and connections as well.

Its a quick read, written at a young-adult reading level, but the message and the language are engaging for young and old alike.

Easy reading for elementary students. Great to accompany a community garden class.

This book was a simple read with an inspirational message. It shows how people can be brought together by the idea of one, and learn from one another. It falls into backgrounds of different people with different lives and how they connect with one another to accomplsish the same goal.

Holy Moly I listen to a lot of audios and this is one of the best in a long time. Sad it is a mere 2 disks, but there is so much story and heart in the tales of those most unlikely folks who almost reluctantly come together to turn a junk-filled empty lot (contradiction there?)into a glorious community garden. Highly recommended.
